The genius marketing email I received and why it worked.
Like many of you, I have a separate personal junk email account that I use for when I sign up for accounts or when I am looking for rewards and coupons. I don’t read these emails unless I’m shopping and need the latest email coupon. But this time, I did read one email. I want to share with you all why this is genius.
One email particularly stood out. It stood out large enough for me to click on it.
It was this one….
I was wondering why it got me.
Why it peaked my curiosity in a slew of promotional emails.
Why I opened it.
1. The headline stood out in simplicity.
The headline was shorter than all the others. Similar to how headlines are from friends when they email me. The sales promotions tend to try to use as many words as possible.
This automatically stood out, before I even read it.
2. It connected with me.
At the end of the day, we are all human. We want to be missed. We want love. Sometimes marketing forgets this.
This email realized I was human and appealed to that side of me.
This email used emotion to reach customers, standing out from the rest of the cold emails.
3. The body of the email was simple.
The email was short. Short enough that it actually encouraged me to read it. Like a message from a friend. They don’t say they miss me and then list a million things for me to do or list all the products. They say they miss me and say, “I’m here for you if you need me.” That’s what this email did.
At the end of the day, at the end of all the data, we are human.
Great marketing realizes this.
